Graffiti Graveyard – East London’s best kept secret

Graffiti Graveyard

Today I found a gem, an absolute gem in the East End. I have never seen it before on any other website or been told about it…. surely others have spied it?!

Bang-up, back-up

I have named it Graffiti Graveyard because it is a wasteground, a dead area which may have formally been to be a basketball or football court, now it is littered with rubbish, beer cans, spray cans, bins, wood and general crap. But on each and every wall of this enclosure there are bright, vibrant sometimes poignant pieces of street art. There is a tribute from Team Robbo to their fallen leader and various other RIP pieces and tributes, therefore the Graffiti Graveyard feels spot on.

Jobzy

Now for any regular readers you will know I am conflicted when it comes to giving away the exact location of pieces of street art, personally, and it is only my opinion, I think it should be discovered and not advertised explicitly. So all I will say is that it is in the Broadway / London Fields area of London.

Sebastiaan Breemer – Hales Gallery

All in the eyes

At the Hales Gallery in East London in the Tea Building to be exact, there is a small but perfectly formed exhibition by Dutch artist Sebastiaan Breemer called Egmont Re-Visited which teams photography with really intricate dot work in white to create shading and contours on the photographic paper.

Faded beauty

The photographs are a mixture of old shots from Breemer’s family collection and his Brasilian wife’s, some new and some very old. Each image has it’s  own emotion which is then textured with the white paint work to bring an even more emotive feel, then finally a few coloured spots.

It is only on for a month until March 5th and it does not feature any of his coloured photos but well worth the trip to the Hales Gallery

It’s a 50:50 French affair

Choose your side of the bed

Spotted this online this morning and loved it, clean and crisp lines on one side then hectic graf and tagging on the other. French collective Tilt from France have detailed it from the bed and pillows, down to a market and ornament on the vanity table, actually check out Tober, I think they carried it on to him too.

It is called Panic Room and is one of the rooms created by artists for a hotel in Marseille called Au Vieux Panier personally I’d love to sleep in a work of art, but imagine waking on one side for a moment, dozing off and then waking to the other. Brilliantly confused.

24hr Cupcakes – Now that is what I am talking about

No trip to NYC would be compete without a Red Velvet, I’d wager that a lil cupcake is far better for the waistline than a burger, chips, pizza or some rotten kebab.

What is the pin code for cake?

Sprinkles Cupcakes have already introduced a 24hr cupcake vending machine in La La Land but I’d sooner go to NYC and they are soon to start popping up there too. The idea of a vended life is not a new one of course, crisps, T-shirts , Nike footballs and even Coke got in on the act and vended ‘Happiness

Cupcakes are very en vogue at the moment and they are darn tasty, how long until we something similar in Soho or even Shoreditch, I give it roughly 3 weeks.

Patrick Cox are you listening?

Keds kicks go social

Trainers, pumps, kicks, sneakers, whatever you call them the chances are you have at least 5 pairs, unless you are seriously weird.

I have 20 pairs in my london flat and another 20 at my dad’s house.

These Keds are quite a smart idea, they take their colour inspiration from the most popular social networks, showing beyond doubt that social media is literally everywhere every day of our lives beit on our laptops, tablets, Smart phones, Smart watches, diaries, language and feet.

I want the Flickr ones

Manchester – Street Art

Frank Sidebottom... with added knob

Well these are the few examples I saw in an admittedly flying visit when I was able to go out and avoid the rain. Jesus it rains non-stop there.

So like these pieces as they have a nice little bit of humour, even if technically they are not very complex, that is a good thing sometimes. These were around the Northern Quarter and whilst there were other examples I either did not get any good shots because of the fecking weather or I thought the pieces were not that great.

Storm Tropper taking a wee break

Storm Trooper channeling Travolta

I would have liked to have had more time to search the city for different and better examples, any Manc natives know some good areas to check out then please drop me a line.

We did end up having butlers in the buff serving us drinks… I can provide those pics if you really want but then again….

Before festival season…..

Is festival booking season, I was reminded of this today whilst reading the Metro on the tube and spotting an ad for Lovebox, which has improved immeasurably from the shite Groove Armarda on repeat borefest of Clapham Common to the cool East London version which features the super gay Sunday oral aural excitement featuring Horse Meat Disco, Gutter Slut, Azari & iii and the Rapture.

A dancing cartoon cock is still a cock

Only gays can get away with featuring a cartoon cock on the advertisement in a national newspaper. Amazing

In other news, booking my euro adventure this year I am choosing between Sonar, Melt, Garden, Electric Elephant etc etc for my European swaray, I am veering towards a Sonar return but Melt has a ridiculous line up and was amazing last year. Hmmm… maybe both…

UK Festival preview to come…

Things i’ve seen….

Wondering around London on my bike taking in a few things as I go….

London Faberge egg hunt is underway, I’ve seen loads but cannot be bovd to post all of them, if I spot a nice one, I’ll be sure to share… and maybe take home

St. James Park Egg

Some people feel deep shame for eating McDonalds and will not admit it… I am sometimes one, but I have come out to bigger things. I eat a double cheeseburger from time to time… and what?

Anyway liked this just off Brick Lane… not easy to spot but funny and a bit cute I think… call me crazy ya’l. I think it amused me as it is a comment on society, so many kids in the UK are reared on the golden arch and here is a baby ‘Donalds!

Happy meal anyone?

Street art doesn’t need to be beautiful in an artistic way, it can be simple, it can be words and it can be something that makes society look at it’s self or just raises a lil smile

One Love

Check out the peepers….

I try and avoid posting fashion items that I want to buy, it would become ridiculous, it would be post after post of trainers, shoes, glasses and watches, there would be jeans a plenty and it would get boring for everyone… however….

Seeing as I live in East London and we like a pair of glasses I thought I’d drop this one in.

Kray glasses

Made by Bounty Hunter, these Japanese specs are going to be my next purchase…. standard and fact.

Can’t find where to buy them yet thought
