Sebastiaan Breemer – Hales Gallery

All in the eyes

At the Hales Gallery in East London in the Tea Building to be exact, there is a small but perfectly formed exhibition by Dutch artist Sebastiaan Breemer called Egmont Re-Visited which teams photography with really intricate dot work in white to create shading and contours on the photographic paper.

Faded beauty

The photographs are a mixture of old shots from Breemer’s family collection and his Brasilian wife’s, some new and some very old. Each image has it’s  own emotion which is then textured with the white paint work to bring an even more emotive feel, then finally a few coloured spots.

It is only on for a month until March 5th and it does not feature any of his coloured photos but well worth the trip to the Hales Gallery

It’s a 50:50 French affair

Choose your side of the bed

Spotted this online this morning and loved it, clean and crisp lines on one side then hectic graf and tagging on the other. French collective Tilt from France have detailed it from the bed and pillows, down to a market and ornament on the vanity table, actually check out Tober, I think they carried it on to him too.

It is called Panic Room and is one of the rooms created by artists for a hotel in Marseille called Au Vieux Panier personally I’d love to sleep in a work of art, but imagine waking on one side for a moment, dozing off and then waking to the other. Brilliantly confused.

24hr Cupcakes – Now that is what I am talking about

No trip to NYC would be compete without a Red Velvet, I’d wager that a lil cupcake is far better for the waistline than a burger, chips, pizza or some rotten kebab.

What is the pin code for cake?

Sprinkles Cupcakes have already introduced a 24hr cupcake vending machine in La La Land but I’d sooner go to NYC and they are soon to start popping up there too. The idea of a vended life is not a new one of course, crisps, T-shirts , Nike footballs and even Coke got in on the act and vended ‘Happiness

Cupcakes are very en vogue at the moment and they are darn tasty, how long until we something similar in Soho or even Shoreditch, I give it roughly 3 weeks.

Patrick Cox are you listening?

Things i’ve seen….

Wondering around London on my bike taking in a few things as I go….

London Faberge egg hunt is underway, I’ve seen loads but cannot be bovd to post all of them, if I spot a nice one, I’ll be sure to share… and maybe take home

St. James Park Egg

Some people feel deep shame for eating McDonalds and will not admit it… I am sometimes one, but I have come out to bigger things. I eat a double cheeseburger from time to time… and what?

Anyway liked this just off Brick Lane… not easy to spot but funny and a bit cute I think… call me crazy ya’l. I think it amused me as it is a comment on society, so many kids in the UK are reared on the golden arch and here is a baby ‘Donalds!

Happy meal anyone?

Street art doesn’t need to be beautiful in an artistic way, it can be simple, it can be words and it can be something that makes society look at it’s self or just raises a lil smile

One Love

Check out the peepers….

I try and avoid posting fashion items that I want to buy, it would become ridiculous, it would be post after post of trainers, shoes, glasses and watches, there would be jeans a plenty and it would get boring for everyone… however….

Seeing as I live in East London and we like a pair of glasses I thought I’d drop this one in.

Kray glasses

Made by Bounty Hunter, these Japanese specs are going to be my next purchase…. standard and fact.

Can’t find where to buy them yet thought

Clever lil Ruskie mkII

Eye eye

Almost a month to the day since the last installment of Clever Lil Ruskie.

Thomas, Percy and Toby

This time it is Nikita Nomerz, loving these, for some reason they remind me of the faces from Thomas the Tank Engine but all the same brilliant use of the world around us. Making everyday objects into pieces of art. You often see brilliant art but these Russians take it to another level using the shames of objects as the basis. I wonder what they could do with the Gherkin….

What is the name of that Star Wars character?

One of them is clearly Sloth from the Goonies

Remind you of anything?

John Peel Music-eum

The Peel

I recently mentioned about things that are very British, institutions if you will, things like Royal Family, Corrie, Antiques Roadshow, etc. Well one I did not mention is a certain musical oracle by the name of John Peel, a man who was an encyclopedia of music and always seemed to know what was orally delectable to such a cross section of people worldwide. And now there will be an online museum of his personal record collection called the Space. It will feature over 25,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and countless thousands of CDs. Apparently it will be live from May to October and is being funded by The Arts Council, with a little help from the BBC. A veritable banquet of music from across the board.

I for one hope this is not just a listening tool, I hope that the record artwork will be included where possible, it would be brilliant in a Million $ Homepage style.

For my foreign chums who know not of the Peel, he discovered bands and introduced obscure music to the masses, music most would not normally dream of listening to. Peel was the first to play Bowie to the masses, the first to bring the UK listener’s attention to Joy Division, Jarvis cocker paid tribute to Peel for giving Pulp their first break and he was also one of the first to champion The White Stripes after seeing their album in a Dutch music shop. On top of this he has a whole stage named after him at Glasto and he sported some bloody fantastical facial hair through the ages….

Another Stik….

As mentioned I do not like giving away the exact locals of the things I find… good for people to discover themselves. This Stik piece is near Broadway Market and is rather cute I think you will agree.

Stik Stik

Our Stik friends look like they might have had a bit of a lovers tiff…. I am sure they make sweet Stik love to forget about it later though

It is pretty amazing how you can see so many different emotions on the face when there is only two dot eyes to betray the feeling.

Featured Artist::: Alice Pasquini aka AliCé

It’s nice to discover a new artist int it…

Sister wall

The Italian lady who resides on Rome but has formally lived in the UK, in London. Her art has a very feminine and emotive feel to them than many pieces you see on the London streets do not display. The look in the eyes of the characters seem to tell a story and one which the viewer can draw their own conclusions to. There are a few pieces from AliCé in London but they are not easy to find… Check out Blackhall Street in Shoreditch…. they might still be there
