#Banksy – Street art’s very own Mr. Marmite

Say what you will about Bristol’s finest but he makes sure people do not forget him, every new piece he stencils in London, Bristol, New York, LA or any other city for that matter.

I am not that fussed by Banksy’s work on the basis that I do not think he is doing too much to push the boundaries, bring the humour or be particularly political. The piece I spotted today is pretty, no denying, the colours make it something very easy on the eye but…..

Woe is Banksy

The idea of an artist with a ball and chain around his ankle, is he for real? In today’s day an age artists are hardly constrained, street artists can graf pretty much where they like within reason and they are making a packet from it. And why the hell not, I think they should. My question to Mr. Banksy is how the bejesus are you being constrained?! I’d wager you are sitting pretty pretty me ol mucker. Those shows in NYC and London, celeb fans such as Brangellina, the film. Banksy must be comfortable enough to be a bit more imaginative.

Also I know that is his style but something makes me wonder if he could do anything else….

Art road show in Baltimore

Ginosaurus Peddleous Sartimus or GPS

When you combine two of my interests, cycling and art then usually you get me cycling to a gallery, probably stopping off for a wee cocktail en route and then homeward for some people watching.

Not if you are Christopher Wallace (no not Biggie, he dead y’al), he managed to use GPS tracking to create his own little piece of art as he got fit. I love this for it’s simplicity and because it looks a bit like something I’d draw… albeit it better tbh.

Wallace did this is Baltimore… which is in the US of A y’al

Skull ride

This would be about as easy as finding a virgin in Essex if you tried it in London as we do not have blocks and it would look like the cyclist was a piss head with rather lax sense of direction.

Whoever wanted to be Dscreet?

Bird Cream – Dscreet

Dscreet, long term collaborator of Sweet Toof and an artist who pops up quite often around London, the impossible to miss owls keep watch over many corners of the earth, from Brooklyn to Melbourne.

This piece is cool as it takes a little bit of of Sweet Toof and then Dscreet takes over, It is called Bird Cream and was  a 2009 piece. Nice that it is still in good nick.

Find it for yourself in Bethnal Green near the rail lines

The Epic Adventures of Sweet Toof…. pt98

This is pretty much a weekly section on StandardFact, although I would like to say this is not dedicated to one artist and we will be making sure that other artists get a look in…. providing they up the ante

Big mouth

Sweet mouth

Any trips along the canal, on the Olympic route and around the industrial estates, Sweet Toof is seen….

Roller toof

Peg toof

He even made a cameo appearance on the Apprentice this week

Old school cycling and hodgehegs… Chance it

Chance Street, East London, possibly one of the best streets in LDN to find street art, there is another iconic piece from Roa, there is tagging galore and there are loads of other bits and pieces you can spot, even my old mates id-iom have sprayed the wall before.

Unmistakably Roa

This stencil piece is cool, old school motorbike with side car, it won’t last that long so head down for a wee gander.

Biking Chance

According to Shop Talk it is Crycle Collective, I can not find any more info… anyone shed any light?

Side car action

Things I’ve seen…

More random pieces from my mooching around London. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on who they are by. As they say every day is a school day

Helmet hoodlum

Not quite Facejacker

Monkey bidness

Bed Stik… Another one for the collection

Shhhhhhleep

Stik can be seen all over the East end, another one to add to the collection. Sleepy Stik is a cute Stik. Again the shape of the body and minimal face still manages to convey some form of emotion. My stick drawings are not even suitable for Hartbeat, I’ll stick to scribbles and doodles

And another

And another

One more

Final one

Insane Felans Cartel

First of all this is the best name for a graf team, I can not find much about them so will keep looking. Or can anyone else help?

A little bit of insanity does you good

Loving this because of the wide use of colours, bit like a rainbow on acid, which is hardly surprising given the name.

This 2011 piece is nicely hidden away off Bethnal Green Road, but on the same street as some pretty average pieces, which only makes this even better. As always art pickers, find it for yourself, do a little mooching.

Things I’ve seen…

Long wall of paint...

Few of my favourite shots from today, mooching down the canals of London in the East. One entire wall of graf which was about 18ft tall, here are a few pieces….

Silkey & TLY TRP

TRP

This is the best thing I have seen for ages…. madness

Not sure who it is but it's dead good

Plus this one I spotted around the corner

No idea... but looks nice

Sweet Toof by the waterside

Nose peg

Yet more from the man who has painted his way around the Eastend for at least the last 4 years.

He is anonymous and has not revealed his true identity, there are rumours that it is Martin Lea Brown, I have no idea at all and Brown would not confirm nor deny. You can see the similarities in a few of his pieces, sometimes it’s best not to know

Anyway… more bits for you here

Blurred

This one is a bit shit but we will put it down to the crap surface

Rotten Toof

I have also spotted another which has been started but not finished, once I get the time I’ll see if it has been filled in
